For such a small island Lanzarote really is attraction-packed. As well as great beaches, picturesque white washed villages and incredible natural beauty, Lanzarote possesses a posse of truly unique tourist attractions.

These Cultural Centres, were all developed under the aegis of island born artist and architect Cesar Manrique; who famously helped to shape relatively restrained development on Lanzarote during the 1970’s and 80’s, whilst other parts of Spain ran headlong into the arms of high-rise, mass-market tourism.

Whilst other Spanish sunspots tried to tempt tourists with golf courses and water parks the visionary Manrique marshaled island opinion and instead pioneered a far more culturally sensitive approach.

The results are spectacular, marrying Manrique’s stylish, minimalist design aesthetic with traditional island architecture and the unique natural beauty of Lanzarote.

Importantly, these attractions also have a great deal of symbolic, cultural and historic significance and are as enlightening as they are entertaining.

Confusingly, there are in reality eight key island attractions. However one of these, Cesar Manrique’s House, falls outside the remit of the island government as it is administered by a trust and hence is marketed separately.
