Playa Blanca – Lanzarote´s Property Hot Spot
Lanzarote´s primary attraction for overseas property buyers is obvious. As low rainfall and year round sunshine are, ultimately, the major magnets for most.
This makes the island the ideal location for anyone seeking retirement property, investment property or just an altogether better quality of life. And unlike, say, Southern Spain or the emerging Black Sea resorts, property on Lanzarote can always be rented out for twelve months of the year.
But many buyers are unaware of the fact that even on a small island like Lanzarote climate conditions can vary enormously. And during the winter months especially the difference between the north and south of the island can be considerable.
“That’s certainly one of the reasons why both local and overseas buyers have started to focus more on Playa Blanca says Warwick Pemberton, Director of island-based estate agents Freedom Properties.
Southern Sun
“Once you get to know Lanzarote you quickly come to realize that the southern tip enjoys better year round weather than any other part of the island. So if you´re buying into a sunshine lifestyle it genuinely does make more sense to base yourself here”.
“It´s also the reason why the resort itself has really started to take off over the last five years. Development in Playa Blanca started much later than in the other resorts. Which explains why it has retained much of it´s original charm.
“But all of the major hoteliers have come to realize that this is the place to be. And these guys now a thing or two about development and investment. Their clients are basically buying sunshine and this is the spot where they are most likely to get it”.
“As a result there is now an incredible choice of really good quality hotel and villa accommodation for the tourist market in Playa Blanca. Far more than you would find in the rival resorts of either Costa Teguise or Puerto del Carmen”.
Growth Area
“And this is very important for anyone planning to relocate to Lanzarote. Or for anyone thinking about buying property to let. As a growing resort means more business and employment opportunities”.
Warwick is quick to point out though that it isn’t just sunshine alone that has driven Playa Blanca’s recent growth.
“A growing resort needs more than just good weather to sustain it. Playa Blanca enjoys a great location as we’ve go the best beaches on the island here at Papagayo. And the town is also the gateway to Fuerteventura”.
“The infrastructure here has also been significantly improved by new developments such as the Marina Rubicon. And plans are afoot to introduce more facilities such as a new golf course. Which again can only help to further drive growth in both the tourist and property sectors”.
Property Choices
“Unlike other parts of the island buyers also have a great range of property choice in Playa Blanca. From brand new holiday apartment developments, such as Club Las Velas, to high quality new build villas”.
“As a result it is a very competitive market. Which means that property in Playa Blanca is more keenly priced and better value for money than anywhere else on the island. Here, for example, you can still buy a detached two to three bedroom villa, brand new, for as little as €260,000”.
“Now that simply wouldn’t happen in either of the other main resorts. Property there is overpriced by comparison. And that’s the real reason why Playa Blanca has become Lanzarote´s property hot spot. Buyers here are getting the best value for money along with the best possible weather.”
