Lanzarote Kayak Tours

Old Town Harbour - Kayak Tours
Fun Kayak Tours offer tourists a novel way to explore the island. As the company organise guided tours of Lanzarote´s south eastern coastline – and also offer a kayak delivery and collection service for those who want to undertake their own solo trip.

Simply call them, on 0034 616 771440 – reserve a single or double kayak – and they deliver the boats to your starting point by trailer. Along with instructions, life jackets, waterproof storage container for your clothes and full route descriptions. Before meeting you later at a pre-arranged time and destination to pick the kayaks up again.

They can also arrange to collect you from your hotel, villa or apartment if you don’t want to hire a car. And in the unlikely event that bad weather forces cancellation of your trip then there´s nothing to pay.

Fun Kayak Tours use new generation Sit On Top kayaks – which are much safer and easier to use than the older traditional model of boat. The cockpit area of the kayak is completely open, so it´s very east to board and dismount. And as the Sit on Top is basically a closed shell, making it unsinkable as it features a self-drainage-system that ensures that any water flows out of the cockpit automatically.

Kayak hire starts from as little as €22 per boat and their guided tours are suitable for everyone aged 12 years and upwards.

Playa Blanca – Beach Safari

Kayak tours - Papagayo
The beaches at Papagayo just outside Playa Blanca are renowned for their beauty and the clarity of the water. And skimming the sea in one of the latest generation of kayaks provides the perfect opportunity to observe the abundant underwater sea life to be found just off the shore here.

The Beach Safari begins in the resort of Playa Blanca, where the kayaks are launched from the end of the beach promenade. The guide will steer a passage through the fishing boats moored here and on past the centre of the town and the golden sands of Playa Dorada. At this point there is an opportunity to have a quick rest en route, before the journey resumes, passing the new luxury harbour at Marina Rubicon.

As the outer edges of Playa Blanca are left behind, the coastline begins to reveal the coves and beaches that make up Papagayo. There are six beaches in total, of varying sizes. In and around the beaches are many reefs with thriving marine life to be observed just below the surface. This is an idyllic way to cruise past one of the island’s best beauty spots, taking in the sights and the sun in a relaxed fashion.

The Beach Safari lasts two and a half hours in total and is led by an English-speaking guide. The price per person is 34€.

Arrecife – Pirate Safari

Kayak Tours - Arrecife
Once the island was regularly at the mercy of marauding pirates, who would ransack local villages and occasionally carry off the inhabitants as slaves. Such was the frequency of attacks during the sixteenth century that the fortifications at Arrecife were constructed to try and repel these invaders.

Now the castle at San Gabriel and the drawbridge – the Puente de las Bolas – provide the backdrop for a kayak tour of the island’s capital. Starting at the beach at Playa del Reducto, the tour weaves its way through the reefs surrounding the city, from which Arrecife takes its name (arrecife is reef in Spanish). And after a brief pause in front of the castle, the route continues on to the Charco de San Gines. This is the inlet, behind the church of San Gines, where many smaller fishing boats are moored.

It also makes an ideal spot for a quick rest, as the tour makes a brief interlude for refreshment at one of the bars that line the Charco before returning along the seafront of Arrecife to the starting point.

The length of this trip is approximately two to two and a half hours and can be undertaken with or without a guide. A quick paddling course is thrown in by the guide and of course many points of interest along the route. The cost of this tour is 32€ per person with a guide and 22€ per person without.

Playa Quemada – Adventure Tour

Beginning in the unspoilt village of Playa Quemada, this kayak tour provides the chance to see part of the coastline that is inaccessible by road. Launching from the ‘Burnt Beach’ (which is the English translation of Playa Quemada), the route follows the shoreline at the bottom of the Atalaya de Femes, the large range of mountains that hover between here and Playa Blanca. This rugged landscape has hidden caves and coves to explore as part of the journey towards Papagayo.

The tour is available both with and without a guide, lasts approximately two to two and a half hours and is priced at 39€ per person with a guide and 29€ per person unaccompanied.

Lanzarote Kayak Tours also offer a Sun and Fun Tour of the Puerto del Carmen coastline which launches from nearby Matagorda. Enabling guests to explore the many beaches and coves that are dotted along the coastline of Lanzarote´s most popular resort.
