Visitors with a budding Tiger Woods in the family can now head for the new Lanzarote Golf Resort, located just outside Puerto del Carmen. Where lessons are being held for juniors throughout the summer.

The summer months with their long school holidays are an ideal time for children to take up new interests and sporting activities. Something that Lanzarote Golf Resort recognises and caters for, with their Summer Golf School.

Learning golf is a good way for children to get all the benefits of outdoor exercise without being too strenuous in the summer heat. And it may well engender a genuine passion for the game amongst youngsters who have natural sporting abilities.

These days the sport is becoming increasingly popular amongst the younger generation, with stars like Ty Tyrone following in the footsteps of Tiger Woods. Tyrone became the youngest ever player, at 17, to qualify on the PGA tour in the United States. Whilst the Welsh player, Zach Gould, is a leading proponent that ‘you can never start too young’, something which is borne out by his qualification for the quarter finals of the British Boys Championship at only 16.

And its newly fashionable profile isn’t restricted to male players, with enthusiasts such as 14 year old Michelle Wie from Hawaii leading the way for other teenage girls to take up the clubs. Michelle can already count Annika Sorenstam, the world’s best women’s player at present, as a fan. The Hawaiian teenager started playing at age four, which should serve as an inspiration for any budding young putters.

The Golf School at Lanzarote Golf Resort is open for summer lessons, with classes for children during the morning, whilst adults can attend in the afternoons. The basic course for children runs on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Each class is one hour’s tuition and costs €40 per person, or €50 for two people at the same time.

Lanzarote Golf Resort can be found five minutes from Puerto del Carmen on the road to Tias, taking the exit out of the resort on Av. Juan Carlos 1, which runs up from the old town past the Biosfera shopping centre.
