Given its position as Lanzarote´s most popular resort there is a surprisingly limited range of choice for visitors to the island when it comes to selecting an hotel in Puerto del Carmen. As the destination is dominated by apartment complexes and apart-hotels.

This is especially true if hotels – in what are considered to be the outlying enclaves of Los Pocillos and Matagorda are excluded from the mix. Leaving the Hotel Fariones and the San Antonio as the two main options.

Hotel San Antonio

Location

Whilst the Fariones is located right in the heart of Puerto del Carmen the four star Hotel San Antonio is located just on the edge of the resort – at the end of the main Avenida del las Playas towards Los Pocillos and Matagorda. And boasts a picturesque and peaceful beach front location (although that has been temporarily compromised recently by work being carried out on the pedestrianisation of the resort).

Pool at the Hotel San Antonio

Like many hotels the San Antonio enjoys a mixed bag of reviews on travel websites such as Trip Advisor. But having billeted family there in the past
there were few real complaints – beyond the fact that in high summer facilities, such as the number of loungers available around the pool, were somewhat stretched.

Certainly, the hotels location is one of its main selling points – as it caters well to those who favour peaceful days by the pool or on the beach but who also want to be in walking distance of the bars, shops and restauarants of the resort. And also boasts decent on site amenities for those who never want to leave the confines of the hotel.

Facilities

The San Antonio has two primary pool areas – the High Pool – so called as it is located on an upper terrace, which grants great views across to the neighbouring island of Fuerteventura. Plus the main pool area – which is the focal point of the hotels exterior and the busier option of the two.

Their aquatic offering is rounded off by a children’s pool area which is handily located close to the kids playground. Like all of the pools at the Hotel it is heated to a year round temperature of 25c.

Accommodation

Indoors, the San Antonio has 331 rooms – comprising a mixture of double rooms, family rooms and suites.

All of the standard doubles are modern and comfortable and feature balconies with sea views along with the usual extras such as air conditioning, direct dial telephone, satellite TV as well as a safe and a minibar to rent. The bathrooms feature marble and granite finishes and all of them have a hairdryer.

Family Rooms – as you’d expect – are slightly larger – and are equipped with a sofa bed creating the capacity for four people. The best of these rooms are located on the ground floor – as these enjoy direct access to the hotel gardens via their own large terraces.

The San Antonio has eight suites for those in search of a little more luxury and these occupy some of the best locations dotted around the hotel. And feature marble bathrooms, integrated living room areas and upmarket extras such as bathrobes and house shoes.

The public areas of the hotel are well maintained and comfortable – offering a number of pleasant areas to relax and read a book or enjoy a cup of coffee. And for those in search of more activity the hotel also has a gym (featuring sauna and Turkish Bath) and two tennis courts (which are floodlit at night) and also organise a whole range of activities such as volleyball and aerobics for guests.

Hotel San Antonio Dining Room

The majority of guests opt to stay on a half board basis and they are well catered to by the San Antonio’s two restaurants.

Prices

Prices vary depending on the time of year but during the peak summer months a standard double room costs €128 on a half board basis.
