Restaurants - Other Areas

Some of the best restaurants in Lanzarote are located outside of the main resorts.  So it is well worth making the effort to visit some of these establishments when you are out touring the island.

General Listings A-Z by Area

Museum of International and Contemporary Art - Arrecife

A rival to LagOmar for the title of Lanzarote´s best looking restaurant, this stylish space is located in the basement of the Castillo de San Jose on the outskirts of Arrecife.  Manrique fans will love the usual trademark touches and diners enjoy great views down to the sea and the harbour.  Service is formal and the food a modern twist on classic Canarian cuisine.

El Marinero - Arrieta

El Marinero really stands out from the shoal of samey- seafood restaurants that surround it in Arrieta´s small high street.  As young head chef Nauzet Santana brings the sort of creativity and skill to the plate that you´d normally associate with more up market international eateries.  Making this a real change from the run of the mill Canarian cuisine found on most local menus.  Prices remain on a par with other local restaurants though, with starters priced at about €6 and mains at €12 to €15.

Casa en la Playa - Arrieta

If you´re looking to enjoy a plate of fresh fish right by the sea then Casa en la Playa is the spot for you.  As it is located bang on the beach at Arrieta, one of the finest stretches of unspoiled sand on the island.  Expect traditional Canarian fayre, such as Gambas al Ajillo to start, followed by a selection of fresh fish, simply served with salad and wrinkled potatoes (papas arrugadas).

Amanecer - Arrieta

Widely regarded as one of the leading seafood restaurants in the north of Lanzarote we found Amanecer - dare we say it - a little dull on our last visit.  Possibly as a result of its rather short menu, which is limited to the usual local staples and a limited range of fresh fish options.  However it continues to do a roaring trade so clearly they are doing something right.  But not enough in our opinion to mark them out from many other local restaurants.  You can´t book a table here either so prepare to wait around at the bar before being seated.

Restaurant Risco de Famara - Caleta de Famara

Another great location if you like enjoying freshly caught fish right by the sea.  The views from the Risco de Famara´s rear terrace are amazing, giving diners a great vista of the beach and the Famara massif and arguably outshine the food, which is traditional Canarian.  You´ll find the restaurant by taking the first sandy street on your right as you enter the village from the beach. Note the original Manrique artworks on the walls.

Lago Verde - El Golfo

Restaurants line the shore in the village of El Golfo and this is widely regarded as one of the best locations on the island to enjoy fresh fish.  Not least as you can dine right by the sea.  Lago Verde is amongst the pick of the bunch here, with diners able to select their own fish on the spot and discuss what they´d like with the chef, Conchi.

Meson de Frontera - Haria

A rare treat for carnivores Meson de Frontera is tucked away just behind the road that runs out of Haria in the direction of Maguez and boasts great views of the surrounding Valley of 1000 Palms.  The emphasis here is on meat dishes cooked to order on the barbecue, such as beef fillet, veal chops, lamb and chicken.  Along with a range of house specials such as rabbit marinated Canarian style.

Emmax - Playa Honda

The food at Emmax combines Italian and Asian influences to great effect right on the sea front promenade in Playa Honda.  Their homemade pasta is accompanied by fresh seasonal produce and the menu changes daily.  There´s also an excellent wine list and great desserts.

Bodega de Uga - Uga

A great lunchtime spot the Bodega de Uga is located within the walls of an old restored winery and boasts a pretty, plant filled terrace and a stunning garden.  Where diners can enjoy a small but perfectly formed menu which features specialities such as a selection of mixed local fish.  There´s also a set lunch time menu that allows you to try a range of dishes.
