Get off the beaten track and explore some of Lanzarote´s lesser known sights.
There are plenty of small villages and hamlets tucked away which never get much attention or mention. But they´ve all got something special to offer.
El Golfo
One of the principal attractions at El Golfo is the famous Green Lagoon
– an unusual phenomenon in the cove, where sea water has become trapped in the form of a lake and turned a striking acidic green, due to the algae which lives there.
Femes
The small village of Femes is home to the Balcón de Femes – the name deriving from the panoramic view it gives you down towards Lanzarote´s southern most resort of Playa Blanca.
Femes is very tucked away, as a result of the steep road which climbs up to the highland from the coast. So it retains plenty of character and unspoilt Canarian charm.
Maguez
If you want to sample life in a typical rural village take a journey through Maguez. The peaceful and picturesque northern hamlet that lies between Haria and the Guinate Tropical Park.
Tabayesco
Tucked away in a verdant valley behind Arrieta lies Tabayesco - a small hamlet of no more than fifty houses.
The village sits at the mouth of the Valley of Temisa and is very picturesque, consisting of only two main roads, on one of which is a tiny chapel and the village social club – or sociedad.
Teseguite
If you want to see some interesting examples of Canarian architecture, then take a stroll around the little known village of Teseguite.
Situated behind the volcano of Guanapay, which sits above Teguise, Teseguite is the rural little sister to the former capital. The village meanders down the hillside and is a typical rural village, with lots of land still dedicated to cultivation. You will see fields of onions and vines.
