Details about Christmas and News Years eve events in Teguise have just been released. Beginning with the inauguration of the town’s Nativity Scene on December 17th, which will be situated as usual in the Plaza Camilo José Cela (opposite Bar Tahona). This is also the date on which the Christmas lights will be turned on.
The Tapas Route returns to the former capital on 17th December and runs through until January 6th. An event which is designed to encourage people to visit the restaurants and bars of Teguise during this period for tapas and wine.
Another annual favourite which is returning to the old centre of Teguise is the Christmas Market, on December 18th. A children’s production of Aladdin is being brought to the marquee in the market square between 18.30 and 21.00 on Friday 18th, with entrance priced at €2 and all proceeds going to Caritas charitable organisation.
Two Christmas carol concerts will be taking place on Saturday 26th and Tuesday 29th December from 20.30 at the Convent of St Domingo, with participation from Canarian folklore groups such as Acatife, Guanapay and La Parranda El Golpito. A children’s carol concert is scheduled for December 17th, featuring youngsters from a number of the island’s schools. This begins at 20.30 and will take place at the Nativity Scene in Plaza Camilo José Cela.
On Christmas Eve, the traditional Rancho de Pascua takes place in the Church of Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe. This involves a representation of the birth of Jesus and starts at 22.30, followed by midnight mass.
And on 31st December there will be a traditional celebration from 23.30 onwards in the heart of the Teguise, where the new year is toasted with ‘Champagne, grapes and fireworks’.
