The first in a series of new concerts gets underway on Saturday 18th September in Puerto Calero, featuring artists from the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden. With a programme that covers selected arias from operas by Mozart, Rossini, Puccini and Verdi amongst others.
The event is taking place in the piazza that lies in front of the Varadero, underneath the modern style canopy and will be the first of several open air concerts planned for this autumn.
Prima Voce is the title for the event on 18th September and features the vocal talents of Julie Unwin (soprano), Kathleen Wilkinson (mezzo soprano), Andrew Rees (tenor) and John Morgan (baritone).
The singers will be accompanied by Janet Barlow on piano. The evening’s programme includes arias, duets and quartets, allowing the full range of the artists’ skills to be heard.
Julie Unwin is highly successful soprano singer in the UK, having performed in the Marriage of Figaro at Glyndebourne in the recent past and at Holland Park´s summer season of open air opera events.
Kathleen Wilkinson has also had a long established career as one of Britain´s leading soprano singers. Her repertoire includes Martha in Faust, Suzuki in Madame Butterfly and other appearances in Eugene Onegin and Carmen.
Andrew Rees is from south Wales and has garnered a successful international career as a tenor opera singer, performing in La Traviata, Madame Butterfly and Tosca to name but a few.
John Morgan has previously appeared at the Cueva de los Verdes in Lanzarote on several occasions and he is well established as one of the leading baritones in the UK, where he appears at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden and at the English and the Welsh National Operas.
The event begins at 20.00, with tickets costing €20 or €30 per person dependent on seats selected and available from the Puerto Calero office on the top floor of the Varadero building, or from Last Minute Travel shops and the Bookswop shops. Transport can also be arranged by purchasing tickets through Last Minute as they will running a transfer service between the main resorts and Puerto Calero on the evening.
