A new exhibition, Emotions in Black and White, featuring the works of two local artists gets underway on Friday evening, 20th August at the Art Salon at the San Antonio chapel in Tias. This show combines both sculptural pieces and figurative paintings by Mariola Acosta and Maria Perez.
Mariola Acosta’s figures are created using materials that are not traditionally chosen for sculpture, such as plaster mixtures that give a greater degree of malleability to the works. As a result the finished figures have matt surfaces and a lightness to their appearance that reflects the emotions the artist aims to depict.
The artist hails from Lanzarote and studied at the School of Fine Arts at the University of La Laguna in Tenerife. Maria Perez is also a locally born artist. Since an early age, Perez has expressed herself artistically through pen and charcoal drawings. This latest exhibition of her work sees her experimenting with oil paints and features extremely detailed portraits, executed with a high degree of precision.
The show opens at 20.30 at the San Antonio chapel in Tias, which is on the main Avenida Central that runs through Tias. The exhibition runs until 19th September and entrance is free.
