As the concluding show in a week of Marionette events, Tias Theatre brings a delightful traditional German fairy tale to the stage, for the enjoyment of children and adults alike.
‘The Queen of the Colours’ is a shadow puppet show, which also uses paintings and new technology to tell the story of the Queen who lives in a castle, surrounded by colourless lands.
Her life is so boring that to amuse herself she begins to introduce colours to the things around her and soon realises that the colours have a life of their own. Using music and a combination of visual forms, this is a story that can be retold with very few words. Making it ideal for all nationalities.
The Queen of the Colours will be performed at 18.00 on Friday 2 May at the Tias Theatre. Tickets are 8€ and available from the Ayuntamiento de Tias or at El Almacén in Arrecife.
Dia de Canarias
May 30th marks the date when the Canaries first gained autonomy from Spain, back in 1983. And now it’s an annual holiday across the all of the seven islands in the archipelago.
The fiesta is a celebration of Canarian culture and events are held across the island. School kids don traditional dress, tuck into local dishes and dance to folklore music. The Canarian flag (white, blue and yellow) flies everywhere and the island government – the Cabildo – organises a whole raft of traditional activities, such as fishing, Canarian wrestling and game hunting competitions.
Even the local supermarkets get in on the act with loads of free food and wine tastings. And most hotels and restaurants also mark the event, usually with themed food and folklore celebrations – so everyone has a chance to celebrate the event.
