It´s a big month for arts events on Lanzarote. As the Bienal Off festival continues and a number of new exhibitions get underway around the island. Whilst on the North West coast the Islas Canarias Santa Surf Pro comes to a climax on November 7th at Playa San Juan in Famara.

Exhibition :: Fuego de Tiera


Museum of Modern Arte
Where :: Museum of International and Contemporary Art (MIAC), Arrecife

Part of the Bienal Off event this exhibition features the work of the eminent Korean artist, Kimsooja, who is well known on the international art circuit.

Her work on show at MIAC, which is housed in the Castillo San Jose in Arrecife includes footage from five videos shot around Lanzarote, in which she combines the four elements of earth, water, fire and air to striking effect. Shot using slow exposure, the images are taken at different times of the day and night to capture the unique feel of the island’s landscapes.

Islas Canarias Santa Surf Pro

Head for the beach of Playa San Juan in Famara to soak up all of the high adrenaline action of the 2009 Islas Canarias Santa Surf Pro. This is one of the most important events in the European surfing calendar and has attracted top class entrants from around the world. The action kicks off daily at 10.00.

Exhibition :: Biodiversity


Where :: Whale & Dolphin Museum, Puerto Calero

A new exhibition at the Whale and Dolphin Museum in Puerto Calero will be displaying photographs under the title ‘Biodiversity’. The exhibition will be free of charge to enter and will run from 14 October to 30 November, open between 10.00 and 18.00.

The waters of the Canary Islands which are so rich in wildlife and offer excellent conditions for diving, also create the perfect environment for a dazzling display of underwater photography.

Numerous well known underwater photographers will be showing examples of their work, including: Carlos Minguell, David Barrio, Carlos Suárez, Fernando Ros, Enrique Faber, Arturo Telle, Teo Lucas, Rafa Herrero, Estanis Alemán, Juanjo S. Cuervo o Arturo Boyra. The aim of the exhibition is to be both informative and entertaining, ensuring visitors gain a greater understanding of the sea surrounding the archipelago.

The Whale and Dolphin Museum is open Tuesdays to Saturdays from 10.00 to 18.00.

Exhibition :: De La Naturaleza


Pepe Dámaso

The ssculptor, muralist and print maker, Pepe Dámaso is one of the most prolific artists to emerge from the Canary Islands – and was a close contemporary of César Manrique.

He has exhibited his work around the world and was credited as the Artistic Director of the Pavilion on the Canary Islands, in the Expo 1992, Seville, Spain.

He trained at the School of Arts, Madrid, Circulo de Bellas Artes and Santa Isabel de Hungaria School of Arts, Seville and his paintings, on show at the Puerto Calero Gallery throughout November reveal detailed studies of natural objects, such as crashing waves and shells, along with more surreal landscapes, reflecting the artist’s imagination.

Los Delinquentes Live
