Moscow Ballet Perform in Arrecife
The prestigious Moscow Ballet will be performing the festive favourite of the Nutcracker Suite by Tchaikovsky next week on 10th December at the Island Theatre in Arrecife. With the event getting underway at 19.00 and with tickets priced at €35.
The Nutcracker is often a favourite ballet to perform at Christmas as the story revolves around the presents given to two children, Clara and Fritz, which come alive during the night of Christmas Eve. The toys the children receive have all been created by the toymaker who is a family friend.
Amongst the most memorable characters in the ballet are Harlequin, the wooden soldier, the Nutcracker and Columbine. The musical score, written by Tchaikosvky and performed for the first time in 1892, includes the famous ‘Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy’ in the second act.
As the story unfolds, Fritz and his cousins attempt to break the Nutcracker, but the toy is eventually rescued and given to Clara. Then, as Clara drifts off to sleep with the Nutcracker in her hands, she dreams he is a handsome prince, who transports her to the magical land of sweets.
There are two performances of the Nutcracker Suite on 10th December, one at 19.00 and the other at 22.00. Tickets cost €35 and are available from Luna Records and from the Cabildo de Lanzarote.
