Get Set For The Wine Run
Alcohol and athletics might seem to be slightly unusual bedfellows but they come together in complimentary fashion on the 9th and 10th of June in the La Geria region of Lanzarote as the island plays host to the second annual Wine Run. An event that is open to both tourists and locals alike.
The event is primarily designed to help promote Lanzarote’s principle wine growing region and its bodegas, along with local cuisine and gastronomy. Entrants are invited to either run a 21km course which starts at the Rubicon bodega and finishes in Mancha Blanca or trek a 10km course from the El Grifo winery – whilst drinking in some of the most amazing volcanic scenery on the island in the process. Aid stations on route will also be offering entrants the chance to sample a variety of local wines whilst both the running and walking routes will culminate at a traditional food and drink fair in Mancha Blanca, which starts at 19.00 on the evening of the 9th. With live music from local group Kardomillo at 20.30. The food and drink fair then carries on throughout June 10th.
The run starts at 09.00 and the walk at 10.30, with an awards ceremony taking place at 14.30. Roads in the region will be closed for the duration of the event and a special shuttle bus service is also in place to transport entrants to their starting point. Leading local restaurants such as La Cañada in Puerto del Carmen and the Monumento al Campesino will be taking part in the wine and food fair, along with most of Lanzarote´s best bodegas.
