Mighty Real – Murray Mints Everyday Art

Who would have thought that hyper realistic portraits of such workaday subject matter as Lanzarote’s goat population would ever prove so popular? Yet these days it’s hard to find a local house whose walls are not adorned with the work of Dominic Murray, a British born painter who has a unique knack for transforming the everday into art.

Murray forged his skills in the UK, enjoying a successful career in costume and prop production at the BBC (most famously as the creator of Mr Blobby) and in London´s West End before emigrating to Lanzarote, attracted like so many other artists and photographers before him by the quality and clarity of the translucent light in the Canaries.

Working out of his gallery in Teguise Murray has developed a wide range of super realistic paintings, covering still life, portraits, landscapes and of course our local goats in a wide range of accessible and affordable formats.

And now tourists can get an even closer look at his work at a new exhibition running at the Sala Municipal Art Gallery in El Charco, Arrecife, until March 28th. Entrance is free of charge.
