HOUSE OF CARDS Postcards From The Past Exhibition Opens in Arrecife

The new Lanzarote and The Postcard exhibition is now showing at the Casa Amarilla in Arrecife and features hundreds of first class images of the island dating back to the 19th century.

In the pre-digital age these mini-mementoes assumed far greater importance for both travelers and recipients alike. But thanks to today´s myriad of alternatives for instant communication online the practice of sending postcards has been all but stamped out.

This fascinating new exhibition however harkens back to the analogue age, when postcards where miniature works of art in their own right, featuring the work of eminent local photographers, such as Gabriel Fernandez, who was widely regarded by those in the know as the most gifted photographer on Lanzarote in the latter half of the last century. Whilst also showcasing some of the most iconic locations on Lanzarote.

Other exhibits take us even further back in time, such as Gonzalo Espinosa´s private collection of cards dating back to the 1930´s.

The Casa Amarilla is open Monday to Friday 10.00 to 20.00 and Saturday 10.00 to 14.00. Admission is free of charge.
