The full programme of events organised under the umbrella of the Bienal Off has now been published, with 40 activities ranging from concerts to exhibitions taking place from 20th October until 14 November.

Tuesday 20th October
New Home – Nuevo HogarThis is an exhibition at the Castillo San Gabriel in Arrecife, examining the contemporary society of Lanzarote with particular focus on the difficulty of mixing modern multicultural developments with the more traditional way of life. It takes a look at the different points of view on issues such as immigration and integration within the island’s current culture. The exhibition is the result of a collaboration within the disciplines of architecture, design and media communications from the University of Bauhaus Weimar in Germany. The exhibition opens at 11.00.
Wednesday 21st October
The Oppressive City Featuring the work of local artists such as David Zamora and Manuel Perdomo, this exhibition at the restaurant Bio-Hesperides in Teguise, explores the experience of city life, across a variety of disciplines including paintings, photography and poetry. The exhibition is inaugurated at 21.00. The restaurant is close to the Church of Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe in Teguise.
Thursday 22nd October
Nature and Human Beings Cooperative of Images. This is an artistic intervention which seeks to provide intriguing exchanges in unusual places. The artists involved in this collaboration have therefore chosen the Island Hospital in Arrecife as the site to explore the benefits that creativity can introduce to people and the environment.
Exhibition Route.Also taking place on Thursday 22nd is the ‘marathon’ of inaugurations, which sees the works of local artists displayed along the following route: Cafetería Said, Bar Andalucía, Bar A la vuelta, Bar La Vidriera, Dublin Irish Pub, Sala Ococo, Pub Tsunami, Pub L’Strada, Tasca Tambo and Callejón Liso. Each bar and café will be holding a show featuring a local artist as part of the Bienal Off, with the openings all taking place at 20.00.
Friday 23rd October

Graffiti MuralTwo walls will be decorated with graffiti murals, starting at 10.00. The groups are composed of CNFSN+, a Gran Canarian duo who are already well known as graffiti artists. They will be working on a wall in Avda Mancomunidad – C/Almirante Boada, which is close to the Gran Hotel in Arrecife. Whilst group two, composed of local artists, will be working on a wall in C/Laguna, also in Arrecife. The murals are envisaged to take three days to complete.
Also on Friday 23rd is a debate about the ‘History of Rock in Lanzarote’. The discussion gets underway at 21.30 at Pub Paraiso 76 in C/Jose Antonio in Arrecife, with a montage of images to be screened alongside featuring the more established rock groups of Lanzarote, such as Oscartienealas. After the colloquium there will be music sessions from newcomers Rising Sun Rock and the Tenerife group Chef O’Hara, who blend rock and jazz. Closing the session will be DJ Ze Pequeño, a regular performer at Pub Paraiso 76.
Saturday 24th October
Graffiti Murals – Day TwoInterested spectators can watch the progress of these street artworks as they develop.
The Voice of ConscienceAt 12.00 in the Calle Real of Arrecife there will also be a gig displaying the skills of several local musicians on the electric guitar.
Individual Production v. Collective ProductionThis is a colloquium being held at Tegoyo in Tias on Saturday at 16.00. Featuring the group El Nucleo, there will be a workshop as well as a discussion on artistic production in post-capitalist times looking at the fusion of individual and collective creations.
Pub Tsunami Rock and Punk ConcertSaturday night sees a number of groups performing at Pub Tsunami in C/Jose Antonio, Arrecife. It kicks off at 22.00 with the ‘psycho punk rock’ group Toxicas, an all girl band from Barcelona. They will be followed by Zombierocker and DJ Skandalera.
Sunday 25th October
Graffiti Murals – Day ThreeThe murals should be finished by the end of the day.
Digital Photography CompetitionThis event is open to anyone who wishes to participate. Interested parties should be at La Recova (the courtyard market space behind the Ayuntamiento of Arrecife) at 11.00 to find out what the competition parameters are. Participants will need to submit their entries two hours before the winners are selected, with the winning entries being projected at 21.00 at Bar a la Vuelta (this is the bar at La Recova).
Wednesday 28th October
Open Studio NightLocal photographer, Ruben Acosta, will be opening his studio to show a selection of his images from 20.30. In the past, Acosta has been a co-director of the Bienal Off, whilst the works on display at his studio have already featured at the International Modern Art Museum (MIAC) and PhotoEspaña. The studio is off Calle La Gaviota which runs parallel to Calle Fajardo in Arrecife.
Thursday 29th October
Erotic Short StoriesThe theme of this presentation is erotic short stories which have been collected for publication as part of the Bienal Off 2009. Featuring the work of ten writers and illustrators working in this genre, the main presentation will be accompanied by music from DJ Markes and the latin-jazz band La Dinamo. The venue is Pub Abbacos in Costa Teguise, which is opposite the Hotel Occidental Teguise Playa and the programme starts at 21.00.
Friday 30th October
Urban SampleA number of workshops and demonstrations of urban art, such as graffiti, breakdance and hip hop will be taking place at 18.00 in the Plaza de la Constitución in Arrecife (just off the main pedestrian Calle Real).
SkatoonsAlso on Friday 30th local band Skatoons will be performing at Bar La Roca from 23.00. The band has built up a considerable following and specialise in playing ska. They will be followed by a set from Costa Teguise DJ La Lagartija. Bar La Roca is in C/Coronel Bens in Arrecife.
Saturday 31st October
Improvised Concert with Four DrumsAt midday on Saturday there will be an improvised percussion session in Calle Real (the main pedestrian shopping street) in Arrecife.
D-Quizio ConcertAlso on Saturday, the waterside promenade of El Charco will see a sundown DJ session from 20.00. Accompanied by visuals, the DJ sets will be mostly experimental electronic music from DJ Sinkro, Booby 242 and DJ Sur-Fer. At Bar La Miñoca in the Charco de San Gines, Arrecife.

El NucleoThe collective group of artists which make up El Nucleo will be presenting their new web page at 19.00 at the Bar a la Vuelta in La Recova, Arrecife.
Wednesday 4th November
Description’ Performance The performance artist Atchen Pounapal and El Nucleo will be presenting two new works as part of the MODART project. The show starts at 18.00 at the Municipal Archive in Arrecife.
Video ShortsAlso on Wednesday 4th, two sessions of short films will be screened at Bar Tasca Tambo. Featuring the work of several Lanzaroteños, the event gets underway at 21.00. Tasca Tambo is close to Lolita’s patisserie on the seafront Avenida in Arrecife.

Home Made Remedies Against the Crisis and The Bud Spencer Experience in Concert A selection of entries from the general public will be on display in the form of stickers, based on graphic designs, offering suggestions and reinterpretations of the ‘Crisis’. They will be accompanied by music from The Bud Spencer Experience at Suspicious Style, C/Otilia Diaz, just behind La Reunion Café in Arrecife. From 20.00.
Friday 6th November
Customising Recycling BinsFrom 10.00 a group of local artists will be customizing a selection of ten recycling bins at various points around Arrecife, using a variety of artistic styles to reinterpret how street furniture should look.
Saturday 7th November
Customising Recycling BinsThe work continues to create interesting and unique customised street furniture.
Calm in Times of CrisisAlso on Saturday 7th is this interactive event. Organised by El Nucleo it is open to the public to participate and anyone interested in doing so should attend the meeting on 27th October at 18.30. The activity on Saturday is envisaged as a collaboration of individuals in the scenic arts and will take place in Calle Real from 11.00.
Possopotare in Concert and DJ Soñadora Saturday’s musical offering takes place at the Dublin Irish Pub in Arrecife from 23.00 and features the band Possopotare from Granada. The Dublin Irish Pub is in Calle de Portugal.
Wednesday 11th November
Evolution’ PerformanceThe artist Atchen Pounapal is performing the second multimedia offering which forms part of the MODART project. From 18.00 at the Municipal Archive in Arrecife.
Short FilmsThe second installation of short films made by local artists will be screened at Tasca Tambo from 21.00 on Wednesday.
Thursday 12th November
Examples of Movie ShortsThe collective group El Nucleo will be examining the discipline of short film following the two film courses, given by director Angel Valiente which were held in August and September. Here a sample of the short films suggested by the courses will be on display. This exhibition is at the Municipal Archive of Arrecife from 20.30.
Imagining Lancelot 28º-7º.An exhibition featuring photography, painting and illustrations suggested by the book by Agustin Espinosa, Lancelot 28º-7º. The selected artworks have been transformed into postcards. From 21.30 on Thursday at Bar a la Vuelta at La Recova, Arrecife.

You Are All PigsA street performance that will be repeated in a variety of spots around Arrecife, by local artists working under the title ‘Sois todos unos cerdos’. The locations are as follows: Plaza Las Palmas, C/ Otília Diaz, C/Inspector Luis Martín, C/Ginés Castro, C/León y Castillo. Calle Quiroga. Calle Vargas. Plaza de la Constitución. Calle Canalejas. The Blind DogThe group El Perro Ciego will be performing their brand of rock music at El Duende in Costa Teguise from 23.00. El Duende is just off the main Avenida de las Islas Canarias, opposite the Pueblo Marinero.
Saturday 14th November
End of the Festival. Teleclub RouteFrom 14.00 onwards the end of the festival will be celebrated with visits to numerous Sociedades (social clubs) around the island. Those who want to participate pay €10 for transport by bus around the various clubs between 14.00 and 22.00.
