A major new exhibition featuring the work of several of the world’s leading contemporary photographers will be inaugurated on March 19th at the Museum of International Contemporary Art (MIAC) in Arrecife.

Under the title ‘Individual and Identity’, the images all form part of the renowned private collection of Ordoñez-Falcon, which contains photography from the very birth of this art form to the modern day. The artists whose work will be displayed at this exhibition include Zhang Huan, Andrés Serrano, Celine Van Balen and Pierre Gonnord.
Each of these photographers has focused especially on the human form, exploring issues of identity and individuality. Both Gonnord and Van Balen have been feted for their creations by camera that resemble the classical portraiture of painters such as Rembrandt or Caravaggio.
Whilst American photographer Andrés Serrano has achieved acclaim through controversial subjects such as ‘Piss Christ’, an image of a crucifix submerged in a vase filled with the artist’s own urine.
Zhang Huan is originally from China and is not only a photographer, but also produces sculpture, installations, drawings and paintings. The main theme of his best known photographic work explores human identity.
The exhibition will run until 14th May and is situated in the Salon for Temporary Exhibitions at the MIAC, in the Castillo San José by Puerto Mármoles. Entrance to the museum costs €2.50 for adults and €1.25 for children. The museum is open between 11.00 and 21.00 every day.
