An easyJet flight to Lanzarote from Gatwick airport was struck by lightning yesterday. The Airbus 319 departed Gatwick at 8.30am yesterday morning but was hit by a lighting strike about 45 minutes into the flight. Forcing the aircraft to return to Gatwick.
Passengers among the 136 tourists on board were reported to have cried out in terror as the lightning caused a loud bang and visible flash. Which caused the plane to shudder and lose altitude.
An easyJet spokesperson stated that the jet was turned back as a precaution and that nobody on board was injured. The same plane was then used to fly the 136 passengers to Lanzarote later yesterday after undergoing safety checks.
