Total foreign tourist arrivals climbed by 5.23% during the first six months of this year versus the same period in 2009, according to the latest statistics just released by ISTAC, the Canarian Institute of Statistics. With a total of 710,104 non Spanish nationals spending their holidays in Lanzarote. However this figure is still 13.76% down versus the first six months of 2008. Whilst German and Irish numbers fell by 3.55% and 14.17% respectively during the first half of 2010.

Foreign Tourist Arrivals Up 5.23% versus 2009 – Down By 13.76% Versus 2008

Lanzarote welcomed a total of 710,104 foreign tourists and 162,658 visitors from Spain during the first half of 2010, according to the latest ISTAC figures. With foreign arrivals climbing by 5.23% during the first six months of this year versus 2009.

However this remains 13.76% short of the 823,444 foreign nationals who enjoyed a holiday on the island during the first half of 2008.

UK Arrivals Up 9% Versus 2009

Of the island’s three main tourist markets only the UK registered an increase in tourist arrivals during the first half of 2010. As the number of British tourists arriving on flights to Lanzarote grew by 9.03% to 372,145 visitors versus the first six months of 2009. When a total of 341,307 UK holidaymakers touched down at Arrecife airport.

However the number of British tourists visiting the island during the first half of this year is still 12.8% below figures for the same period in 2008.

German Arrivals Down By 3.55% Versus 2009

German tourist arrivals fell by 3.55% during the first six months of this year versus the first half of 2009. With a total of 122,924 visitors from Germany spending their holidays here. A figure that is also down by 16.31 % from 146,889 holidaymakers in the first half of 2008.

Eire Arrivals Down By 14.17% Versus 2009

Arrivals from Eire also fell during the first half of this year, down by 14.17% versus the same period in 2009 and by 28.46% versus the first six months of 2008.
