British holidaymakers will be paying nearly 250% more for their holidays in Lanzarote during half term week. According to research recently carried out by Banco Santander. With families traveling from Gatwick facing larger holiday bills than their counterparts around the UK.

Research was conducted into the price of half term holidays to a number of popular winter sun destinations, such as Florida, Gran Canaria, Sharm el Sheikh and Lanzarote. With holidays in these destinations averaging out at double the price during the half term period.

A holiday with flights to Lanzarote from Gatwick worked out the most expensive trip of the lot. Leaving a family of four with a bank breaking bill of £5,485.62 for a one week getaway. 249% more than if the holiday has been taken just one week later.

According to Banco Santander spokesperson Emma Roberts, said: ‘Our research shows that parents with children of school age face a massive premium if they want to take their children away during the half-term break.

It’s not surprising therefore that some families would rather take their children out of school during term time and risk censure from the school than be hit by such staggering premiums.’
