The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has maintained its orange alert as the heat wave currently affecting the Canary Islands continues. Despite the fact that there is a layer of cloud in the skies over Lanzarote and Fuerteventura this is not expected to reduce the high temperatures – which are expected to persist into the weekend.
The current heat wave in the Canaries looks set to continue, according to AEMET. With temperatures expected to reach 35º Celsius inland and in the south of the island. Whilst on Gran Canaria the thermometer may even rise as high as 38º Celsius today.
The forecast for the weekend is that Saturday and Sunday will remain hot, with the wind picking up overnight on both Friday and Saturday, producing gusts of up to 35 early on Sunday morning.
