Occupancy levels in Lanzarote apartments and hotels continues to fall some way short of 2008 levels. According to the latest figures for October just released by the local hoteliers association ASOLAN. Which reveal a drop in the number of beds filled to 62.75% last month from 71.58% in October 2008. A decline much in keeping with figures for previous months of this year.
Unsurprisingly the credit crunch and weak pound continue to bite. As occupancy levels in Lanzarote hotels and apartment complexes fell again last month.
Lanzarote´s main resort of Puerto del Carmen remains the most affected by this downturn. With occupancy levels falling by 14.1% versus October 2008. Whilst Costa Teguise recorded a decline of 8.14% and Playa Blanca 5.23% for the same period. A pattern much in keeping with the trends of previous months.
By accommodation type the largest falls in the number of beds filled occurred in bungalows in Puerto del Carmen (down by 17.78%), four star hotels in Puerto del Carmen (down by 15.22%) and apartments in Puerto del Carmen (down by 13.71%). The only category recoding an increase in occupancy last month was five star hotels in Costa Teguise – rising to 45.12% last month versus 37% in October 2008. But that must be balanced out by a decline in the number of beds filled in the resort’s four star hotels of 14.5% last month.
Holiday apartments were amongst the hardest hit sector by accommodation type in both Playa Blanca and Costa Teguise. With occupancy levels down by 14.63% and 13.71% respectively.
