The number of tourists arriving on flights to Lanzarote fell by 16.2% in September versus 2008 figures. According to the latest statistics just released by AENA, the Spanish airport operators. A number much in line with August´s drop of 16.68%. With foreign arrivals for the year to date now down by an overall total of 17.84%.
AENA´s figures reveal that tourist arrivals dropped from 112,812 passengers in September 2008 to 94,451 last month. A shortfall of 16.2%.
In total for the year to date tourist numbers have now dropped by 215,168 passengers during the first nine months of this year. Down from 1,205,794 in 2008 to 990,626 arrivals.
Of the major markets British tourism continues to show the largest cumulative decline – down by 19.54% for the year to date. With UK arrivals falling from 60,604 passengers in September 2008 to 52,143 last month.
German arrivals fell from 19,758 last September to 17,143 this year. With cumulative arrivals down by 12.2% for the year to date. Whilst the Irish market is currently down by 16.85% for the year. With arrivals falling last month to 15,541 arrivals from 19,678 in September 2008.
