Tuck Into The Festival Of Tapas
Tapas lovers should head to the harbour in Puerto del Carmen Old Town or one of the Centres of Art, Tourism and Culture this weekend, as a fiesta dedicated to tapas, those bite-sized portions of Spanish food, is taking place there tomorrow 18.00 and 23.00. The event is being organized under the SaboreaLanzarote banner, an organisation that has previously been responsible for taking typical Lanzarote dishes to Dublin and Scotland.
In Puerto del Carmen, not only will the individual dishes be priced at the extremely affordable rate of €1 per tapa, but special €5 ticket books will be on sale too, so that visitors can try a wide selection of food. Participating restaurants include La Ola, Casa Roja, La Bamba, Sal y Pimienta and La Cascada, with more than twenty stalls set up around the harbour offering tasty samples. In addition there will also be four bodegas represented, with local wines available to taste. Live music and plenty of activities for children should add to the festive atmosphere in the harbour.
This fiesta will mark the closing event in a week-long celebration of Tapas and Wine, which also includes the participation the restaurants at the main tourist attractions, such as the Monumento al Campesino. The selection of dishes at the Monumento and at the Museum of International Contemporary Art (MIAC) covers dishes such as a ‘mini-hamburger’ of goat, toasted goat’s cheese caramelized with a sweet Lanzarote wine and a tortilla of cherne and onion. And a delicious millefeuille of cherne and endive wrapped in smoke salmon and then served as a gratin with local cheese.
The culinary treats at the MIAC will be priced at a slightly higher level of €3 – €3.50, with all five dishes available to savour at €14.30 (plus IGIC) and will include a glass of Lanzarote wine as accompaniment. Whilst those being served at the Monumento al Campesino will cost between €2.10 and €2.30 and will include octopus served with wrinkled potatoes, sweet potato fried with salted cherne and the previously mentioned mini-hamburger made with goat. To get a taste of all five tapas dishes at the Monumento, the price will be €10 (plus IGIC).
