Why book a holiday in Playa Blanca?  There are a number of factors that help to make this resort stand out.

Great Microclimate

Playa Blanca is located at the southern most tip of Lanzarote.  As a result, it generally enjoys better weather – that is to say slightly higher temperatures and more sunshine – than any other part of the island.

This is obviously a vital consideration if you are planning to book a holiday on Lanzarote.

In the summer months the island tends to enjoy uniformly good weather.  However, in the winter months the resort really comes into its own.  As a holiday in Playa Blanca is more likely to send you home with a tan than a break elsewhere on the island.

Top Quality Accommodation

Playa Blanca is the newest of Lanzarote´s three major tourist resorts.  As a result, it boasts the best selection of four and five star hotels on the island.

Most of these hotels have opened in the last few years – so the infrastructure here is still virtually brand new.

Much of Playa Blanca’s expansion in recent years has been based on the construction of luxury villas – and as a result, the property market in the resort has boomed.

Many of these properties are British or Irish owned and are now rented as holiday villas

Great Beaches

Playa Blanca has one of the most beautiful beaches on the island – right on its doorstep.

The series of coves and bays at Papagayo are just ten to fifteen minutes walk from the centre of the resort.  Only Famara in the north of the island can really rival the natural beauty of the beaches here.

And crucially, Papagayo can be enjoyed all year round.  Whilst Famara´s location makes it off limits to all but hardy surfers and windsurfers during much of the Winter (December to March).

Playa Blanca also boasts a variety of beaches, which the other main resorts cannot really match.  Encompassing the attractive beach at Playa Flamingo, the excellent and family friendly sands at Playa Dorada – and the smaller, picturesque little town beach right in the centre of the resort.

Little wonder that the resort is called white beach in Spanish.

Island Hopping

Playa Blanca is the gateway to the neighbouring island of Fuerteventura.
This offers a number of pluses as visitors can easily hop on a ferry across the Bocaina straits and enjoy a day trip to Corralejo and the incredible 16km long stretch of sand that makes up the Dunas National Park there.

At night, the twinkling lights from across the water add an ambience and atmosphere that is genuinely unique to Playa Blanca.

Timanfaya Fire Mountains

Playa Blanca is perfectly located for an excursion to Lanzarote´s number one tourist attraction.  The Fire Mountains of Timanfaya - which last year attracted over 800,000 visitors.

These now dormant volcanoes erupted for six years from 1730 to 1736 – covering much of the south of Lanzarote in a sea of lava.  Today, this part of the island is often likened to the moon.  And NASA astronauts have even been shown pictures of the twisted terrain here to prepare them for space missions and moon landings.

Marina Rubicon

Playa Blanca is also home to the stylish and relatively recently opened Marina Rubicon.
Completed in 2002 the sports marina here is home to a good range of up market shops and also provides a very atmospheric backdrop for a number of restaurants and bars.  Such as Lanzarote´s very own branch of the famous Café del Mar.

The Marina really comes to life every Wednesday and Saturday when it plays host to a bustling street market from 9am to 2pm.  There are usually special events at the Marina throughout the week.  Thursday is children’s day with a bouncy castle and on Friday evenings street musicians perform from 8pm to 10pm.
