Arguably the epicenter for tourist nightlife on the island Puerto del Carmen is home to hundreds of bars. Especially along the main 6km beachfront strip that runs from one end of the resort to another. As well as a large knot of establishments located in the Old Town harbour area.
The hub of the action is in Centro (nominally halfway along the strip between the Old Town and New Town) – and this area is home to popular and long standing favourites such as Waikiki, Paradise and Route 66. All of which offer a fairly similar array of both drinks and music.
Sports Bars
There is also a big selection of sports bars in town – which makes it easy to keep up with all of the major sporting events such as Premiership football. For obvious reasons, Linekers, opposite the main beach at Playa Grande is the best known of these. But there are plenty of others to choose from throughout the resort.
Live Music Bars
Plenty of bars in Puerto del Carmen offer live music throughout the week. Charlies Bar close to Centro is amongst the best for live rock music whilst a whole plethora of Irish Bars – such as The Brendan Behan in the Old Town and the Craic and Creol by the Biosfera Shopping Centre offer a mixture of Gaelic music and popular standards.
Style Bars
Puerto del Carmen now offers a few alternatives if a diet of chart favourites are not your thing.
The Hawaiian Bar, at the San Antonio Hotel end of the main strip, is home to some of the best dance and chill out music in the resort. Especially at the weekends when DJ Harry Picon takes to the decks.
Close to the Casino Bar La Ola offers stylish surroundings but the music often doesn’t really match. As this bar cum restaurant is part of the ubiquitous Lani´s restaurant chain.
At the other end of town Rumm Bar – down in the harbour area – probably comes closest to the type of stylish bar/club now commonplace in most British cities. And features a regular roster of club DJ´s.
It’s worth noting that nightlife in the resort tends to start late and that these bars especially often don’t get lively much before midnight. Staying open until as late as 4am.
