There are a number of major events that take place annually in Puerto del Carmen which are well worth planning a holiday around.
Carnival
The biggest annual party on the island – Carnival in Puerto del Carmen is a major event that attracts tens of thousands of revelers every year.
Like the rest of South America and many parts of Europe Carnival here is celebrated in February – with the exact dates changing from year to year (see our homepage for up to date information). Carnival in fact rotates around the island – and many tourists plan their winter holiday around this event every year.
The spirit of Carnival in Puerto del Carmen is all inclusive and welcoming – especially if you are really prepared to get right into the swing of things and don fancy dress – which virtually every one else does.
The main Carnival procession – featuring floats and lots of batacuda drum bands – winds its way down the main Avenida de las Playas. Before disintegrating into a massive all-night party in the Old Town harbour area.
Iron Man
The toughest Triathlon in the world. And by the time the competitors have made it through a 3.8km swim and 180km bike ride – and onto the final leg, which is a full marathon up and down the main strip in Puerto del Carmen – you’ll see why for yourself! As some runners can barely stand and many don’t even make the finish line.
Iron Man 2007 takes place on May 19th.
