Yeeeehaaaa… This totally ersatz, but well executed, theme park covers some 50,000 square metres on the outskirts of Puerto del Carmen.

On an island that is a little short on attractions for kids, Rancho Texas is definitely the fastest draw in town.

As you’d expect from a Wild West theme park there´s a whole wagon load of cowboy and injun themed fun to enjoy, from wigwams and stage coaches to ‘real’ red indians on horseback.

Visit the Indian Village. Explore Medicine Man Cave. Go wild west pony trekking.

The accent here is firmly on family fun and there is loads for the kids to do, from prospecting for gold to making new furry friends at the petting zoo, Liliput Farm and watching the regular parrot and bird of prey shows.

Kids can even look on as expert handlers pet slightly more scary animals such as crocodiles. Alternatively go kayaking in thankfully non-croc infested waters.

After sundown there’s a regular country and western evening, involving all of the usual attractions such as line dancing, barbecue and a bucking bronco. These evenings are very popular with large posses of tourists.

For the really adventurous, the theme park also has ten bungalows available for holiday rental, granting free unlimited access to the rest of the park for the duration of your stay.
