Two Nights At the Opera

Two nights of opera are taking place next week, in Arrecife and Puerto Calero, featuring singers from the Royal Opera House in London. The programme for both nights includes some of the most famous operatic arias, such as Nessun Dorma from Puccini's Turandot.

Amongst the artists appearing are the soprano Naomi Harvey and the baritone John Morgan. The first 'Night at the Opera' is scheduled for Thursday 14th July at the Teatro Multicines Atlantida, which is the multiscreen film complex by the side of the Charco in Arrecife. Other stars from the Royal Opera House are mezzo soprano Deborah Hawksley and the tenor Bonaventura Bottone, with accompaniment from Francis Hills on the piano.

The pieces of music that have been selected for the two evenings include arias from Mozart's Cosi Fan Tutte, Bizet's Carmen, Verdi's La Traviata and Puccini's La Boheme. In addition, there will be songs and duets of music by Gilbert and Sullivan, Johann Strauss and Offenbach. Each night's programme will differ slightly, however both will feature the Brindisi, Nessun Dorma by Puccini, most famously sung by Luciano Pavarotti and the Toreador's song.

The second night takes place on Saturday 16th July at Puerto Calero, under the awnings in the square that lies in front of the Varadero building. Tickets for the two events are priced between €10 and €20 for the event at the Teatro Multicine Atlantida and between €15 and €25 for the evening in Puerto Calero.
