World Press Photo Exhibition in Arrecife

The World Press Photo touring exhibition touches down at the exhibition rooms in El Charco, Arrecife from today. And is well worth a visit as it features some of the most striking images that have appeared in newspapers from across the world over the last year and entrance is free of charge.

The World Press Photo contest is designed to showcase the work of photo journalists and has been running for 55 years. Creating a bridge between professional photographers and the general public, who are able to view headline grabbing images from across the globe.

This year's exhibition is touring 54 countries, taking in a total of 100 venues and welcoming over 2 million visitors in total. And will have the winning picture from 2010, taken by South African photographer Jodi Bieber of an Afghan woman, Bibi Aisha, whose image was featured in Time magazine last August.

More than a hundred photos will be displayed, with subjects covering everything from news stories, sporting events, everyday life and nature. The exhibition is inaugurated at 20.30 hours on Friday 5th August at the exhibition salon in El Charco and will run until 26th August. Entrance is free and the venue is open from Monday to Friday between 10.00 and 13.00 and 17.00 to 20.00. It is also open on Saturday morning between 10.00 and 13.00.
