28th Festival de Musica Canarias

The 28th annual Festival de Musica Canarias gets underway this month with classical performances scheduled for a number of the islands across the archipelago. Two of these concerts will be taking place on Lanzarote, as the island hosts the Kings Consort on January 10th in Arrecife and Il Giardino Armonico on the 24th in Teguise, with tickets for both events now available priced at €15 per person.

The Festival Musica de Canarias now enters into its succesful 28th year, having been created in 1985 as a personal initiative by the then governor of the Canary Islands, Jeronimo Saavedra. Since that time the event has expanded greatly in scope and now attracts some of the top classical performers from around the world, such as the renowned London based pianist Murray Perahia.

Lanzarote will be staging two concerts in this years programme. The first, which will take place on January 10th at the Island Theatre in Arrecife, featuring the works of Handell, Purcell and Bach. Tickets are priced at €15 and are available from the tourist information offices in all of the main resorts.

On the 24th the former island capital of Teguise is the setting for a performance of Il Giardino Armonico, showcasing the compositions of Vivaldi, Fontana and Telemann and taking place at the Convento de Santa Domingo, with tickets again priced from €15 per person.
