Il Giardino Armonico in Concert

The Convent of Santo Domingo in Teguise will be the location for the latest concert in the 18th Canarian Music Festival, with a performance from Il Giardino Armonico, tomorrow Tuesday 24th January at 21.00.

The ensemble hails from Italy and was founded in Milan in 1985. Since then the orchestral group has played at international events around the world and won a Grammy award in 1999 for their recording of various Vivaldi compositions. During their tour of the Canary Islands this twelve piece classical group will be playing pieces by Vivaldi, Handel and Telemann.

The group was formed by Giovanni Antonini, who plays the recorder, Paolo Beschi on the cello and Lorenzo Ghielmi on the harpischord. Not long after forming this trio, they were joined by Luca Pianca on the lute and Enrico Onofri on the violin. The point of difference with Il Giardino Armonico is that all the musicians play period instruments, rather than modern facsimiles and depending on the works they plan to cover, the group’s size ranges from a trio to up to 35 members.

To catch Il Giardino Armonico, tickets can be purchased from the Culture Department at the Ayuntamiento of Teguise, for €15. The concert begins at 21.00 at the Convent of Santo Domingo, next to the main Ayuntamiento building in Teguise.
