Football & Volleyball Tournaments Hit The Beach
The island capital of Arrecife plays host to a beach football tournament this weekend, whilst the weekend after Playa Grande in Puerto del Carmen is the stage for the island´s first annual Beach Volleyball tournament.
Lanzarote plays host to a brace of sandy sports spectacles over the coming weeks, kicking off this weekend in Arrecife, where 24 local teams will be participating in the 17th annual Canarian Football Playa Championships. The event is being sponsored by Coca Cola and gets underway from midday today on the beach at Playa Reducto in the heart of the capital.
Spectators can expect to see some high quality skills on display as Lanzarote is home to a vibrant football scene, with many local clubs and organizations entering a team in the hope of progressing to the grand final which is held later in August at Playa Las Canteras on Gran Canaria.
The current title holders La Patente will be defending their crown and the action gets underway from 12.30 today through until 18.00, with the quarters, semis and final taking place tomorrow.
Meanwhile Lanzarote’s main resort of Puerto del Carmen is the location for the island’s first annual Beach Volleyball Tournament , taking place next week from August 3rd to 5th. The event is sponsored by the Biosfera Plaza Shopping Centre in Puerto del Carmen and will be taking place on Playa Grande, the resort’s main beach. First into the fray are the Under 18´s, who will be battling it out Wednesday and Thursday, whilst the seniors hit the sand on Saturday and Sunday. With the teams competing for over €2,000 worth of prize money.
