Celebrate The Grape Harvest in La Geria

It´s harvest time on Lanzarote, which is great news for lovers of the grape, as they can head to the island´s unique wine region in La Geria tomorrow, Wednesday August 15th, to drink in all of the sights and sounds of the Fiesta de la Vendima, which is being organised by leading local winery Bodega La Geria.

The event offers tourists the chance to view traditional methods of harvesting and processing as grapes are taken from the fields and loaded onto a train of camels (whose hoofs are ideal for traversing the volcanic chippings called picon which cover the vineyards here) before being transported to the bodega for treading by foot.

Bodega La Geria have organised a whole raft of events around this harvest festival, including tastings of local food and wines which has been organised in conjunction with Saborea Lanzarote (Taste Lanzarote, an organisation dedicated to the promotion of local island produce) from 10.30 to 15.00 and live folklore music from 13.00 to 15.00. With the loading and transportation of the grapes by camel taking place from 10.30 to 13.00. Other local bodegas such as Rubicon and Stratvs will also be getting into the spirit by offering harvest menus and picnics.
