Benito Cabrera Plays Fiestas de Famara

The talented timple player Benito Cabrera will be playing a free concert on August 31st as part of the celebrations for the Festival of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart. Each year, this fiesta draws huge crowds to the coastal village of Caleta de Famara, and this year promises to be no exception, with as many as 20,000 visitors expected to attend.

The festivities get underway tomorrow, Saturday25th August, with a range of activities taking place in the village throughout the week, culminating in live music and a grand gala of comedy over the weekend of 1st and 2nd September. Amongst the activities organized during the week, there will be skate competitions, mini-football tournaments, folklore performances and outdoor film screenings at the La Caleta School.

On Wednesday evening, live music will be brought to the fiesta by a Cuban band, Mas Que Son and the Sky Band, who have performed in previous years at NuestraSeñoraSagrado Corazon de Maria. On Thursday a dance spectacular takes place, with dancers from the Tahiche dance school, Liberty Dance and the Ruben and Tatiana Company.

Friday evening´s entertainment comes from Benito Cabrera and local bands, Rika Banda and Travesia. Whilst on Saturday the stage is taken over by comedy performers, including the drag queen from this year´s carnival and sketches from Yaneli Hernandez and JuanitoPanchin. Following this there is more live music on the esplanade from Rika Banda and DJ Jenny will be spinning the decks in the area for younger visitors. The festival closes on Sunday with a verbena or open-air dance in the afternoon in the harbour.
