Beselch Rodriguez Live in Teguise

If you fancy catching a uniquely Canarian musical event this weekend then head for the Casa del Timple in Teguise on Sunday the 16th of September. Where you will be able to enjoy the contemporary styling’s of Beselch Rodriguez from midday onwards.

The timple is a ukulele like small stringed instrument that sits at the core of traditional Canarian folk music. In recent years it has been enjoying something of as renaissance and is now being adopted by younger musicians, such as Beselch Rodriguez, who are giving it their own more contemporary and experimental twist. Taking the timple electric in a sea change reminiscent of Bob Dylan’s transition from acoustic to electric guitar in the 1960´s.

Rodriguez hails from Tenerife and will be appearing along with his band, who are promoting his most recent release entitled Habitat. Together they have performed all over Spain at high profile events such as The Cartagena Folk Festival and in Latin America at the International Arts Festival in Costa Rica. Whilst also releasing two albums, In-Different in 2009 and Habitat in 2011.

Admission to the event costs €5 and tickets are available from the tourist office in Teguise which is next to the Timple Museum (formerly the Palacio Spinola) and from the Culture Department of the Ayuntamiento of Teguise, based next to the Convento de Santa Domingo.
