Sample The Food and Wine Fair in Teguise

The historic former island capital of Teguise plays host to a multi faceted festival of food and wine this week, featuring tasty local tapas, special themed menus and a whole raft of other events and activities, including live music, art exhibitions and a mojo making contest.

Selected restaurants in the town are offering themed menus from tomorrow but the bulk of the culinary action in this year’s annual Enogastronómico Saborea Lanzarote event takes place this coming weekend, on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd of December from 11am onwards.

In total, some forty bodegas and restaurants are expected to participate, with three distinct zones to tour and as many as 15,000 visitors anticipated over the course of the weekend. Leading local chefs such as German Blanco from Amura in Puerto Calero and Luis Leon from Arena in Puerto del Carmen will be giving live cookery demonstrations and many of the tapas dishes available will be offered at the budget price of just €1.

Workshops and competitions will form part of the culinary offering, as well as a mini exhibition of images depicting Canarian agricultural production. Local produce, such as goats’ cheese, fish and vegetables cultivated on Lanzarote, will form the backbone of the dishes that are available, which has been organized by the Saborea Lanzarote organization to promote local food and wine.
