Get Set For The XXIII International Marathon of Lanzarote

This Sunday, 9th December, sees the 23rd Edition of the International Marathon of Lanzarote get underway, with more than 750 participants descending on the startline in Costa Teguise. This year there will also be over thirty competitors in wheelchairs battling it out to reach the finishing line too, making the Lanzarote edition the second most important marathon to take place in Europe for less able-bodied athletes.

The 42.2 kilometre route runs along the eastern coast line of the island, from its starting point in Costa Teguise and proceeds through Arrecife, Playa Honda and comes to a finish in Puerto del Carmen. The race begins at 09.00 on Sunday morning at Sands Beach Resort in Costa Teguise.

In preparation for the race, contestants will also be able to test their endurance at a Tapas Marathon, which is organized for Friday 7th December between 16.00 and 21.30 and on Saturday 8th from 10.00 to 21.30 at Sands Beach Resort. On Saturday, the kids marathon is also taking place from 12.00, with registration at 11.00 at the marathon headquarters at Sands.

On Sunday, the awards ceremony for the International Marathon takes place at 14.15 and is followed by a final Tapas Marathon at Sands Beach Resort, with food and drink offered from only €1.50 per dish.
