Flamenco star Miguel Poveda in Concert CANCELLED

Born in Barcelona, Miguel began singing flamenco at the age of just 15 and launched his career as a professional performer twenty years ago, after winning four prestigious awards for his evocation of this musical style.

Since then he has gone on to appear at numerous national and international music festivals and has performed at Carnegie Hall in New York, the Madrid Royal Theatre, Sadler’s Wells in London and the Columbus Theatre in Buenos Aires. With eleven albums to his name and various film credits as well, including the soundtrack for Pedro Almodovar’s film ‘Broken Embraces’ (segments of which were filmed here on Lanzarote) , he is one of the leading interpreters of the flamenco sound. His popularity has led to him becoming an adopted son of Seville – the home of Flamenco - where there is now even a street named in his honour.

Miguel Poveda will be appearing in Lanzarote with Juan Gomez Chicuelo and Joan Albert Armargos, performing pieces from ‘Coplas del querer’ – the album he produced in tandem them - poetry and some of the most representative songs in the flamenco repertoire.

The concert starts at 21.00 on Friday 22nd February at the Island Theatre. Tickets are priced at €20 and can be purchased from the box office an hour before the performance or from the Department of Education and Culture at the Cabildo of Lanzarote.
