Film Festival Hits Arrecife

Next Monday, 8th April, sees the start of the 13th International Film Festival in Arrecife, which features short movies and full length features made by directors from all around the world, as well as a selection of Spanish auteurs.

76 short films have been selected to be screened, with each competing to be nominated as the winning entry for this year. Entries include short films from Germany, Turkey, France, Belgium, Hungary and the US. All the films will be shown in their original language with Spanish subtitles. The American short film featuring is called “It is Dark in Here”, directed by Luis Labrador and tells the story of marital infidelity as discovered by an eleven year old girl. This film forms part of the line up for the Short International films being shown on Thursday 11th April.

Screenings are taking place at the Island Theatre on the Rambla Medula, with many being shown for free, whilst films in the category of International and National Shorts will cost a nominal €1 to enter.

As in previous years, there is also a selection of African films being shown on Saturday 13th April from 18.30, with entry to these screenings free of charge. Also forming part of the festival but not included in the competitions, is a range of family movies, principally created by Disney. These are being shown on Saturday 13th April during the day, from 11.00 onwards and have a small admission charge of €2.
