Disco Night Urban Race Gets Down in Arrecife

Lanzarote already plays host to a number of differently themed athletic events, with both the Wine Run and the Music Marathon firmly established on the calendar. But this weekend, 3rd and 4th May sees an entirely new twist to the theme get underway, as the Disco Night Urban Race takes place in Arrecife - accompanied apparently by live DJ’s, Go-Go dancers and light shows!

This new competitive race features both a 5km and a 10km race, as well as Spinning and Zumba master classes on Friday evening and Saturday morning. The event is being supported by Olympic athlete and Lanzaroteño José Carlos Hernandez. The race takes place on Saturday evening at 21.00 and covers a completely flat course, starting at the Recinto Ferial just next to the Cabildo de Lanzarote building. The first Spinning Master class begins at 20.00 on Friday 3rd May, with a further class at 10.00 on Saturday morning and the Zumba Master class starting at 13.00 on Saturday afternoon.

Inscription for the race and classes has already closed but there will still be plenty for spectators to enjoy, as there will be food and drink stalls as well as music throughout the two evenings and during the day on Saturday. A €300 purse will be awarded to the winner of the 10km race, with trophies given to the winner of each age group. After the award ceremony at 22.30, there will be live music and celebrations into the early hours of Sunday morning.
