Music & Folklore Marks Dia de Canarias

Celebrate Dia de Canarias in authentic fashion this weekend in Haria. As leading Canarian folklore musician and vocalist Jose Manuel Ramos and the group Raices stage a free concert in the village’s main plaza.

Jose Manuel Ramos is widely regarded as one of the pre-eminent performers on the Canarian music scene and he will be unveiling his latest work, entitled Desde Adentro, or From The Inside, a journey through a selection of Latin American and Canarian classics from the 20th century, this coming Friday the 29th of May from 21.00.

Dia de Canarias will be marked by events across the island this weekend as locals celebrate winning autonomy from mainland Spain on May 30th 1983, with traditional, folklore very much to the fore. And other authentic live music events are also being staged, most notably in the former island capital of Teguise, where no less than eight local folklore groups will be performing in the main square from 20.30 onwards on May 29th.
