MIAC and Monumento Dish Up For Dia de Canarias

Savour the flavours of the Canaries at two of the best looking restaurants on Lanzarote this weekend as MIAC, the Museum of International and Contemporary Art in Arrecife and the Monumento al Campesino in Mozaga weigh into the celebrations for Dia de Canarias with special four-course celebratory menus.

Both of the basement restaurants at MIAC and the Monumento were designed by César Manrique and are a feast for the senses in their own right. And on Saturday they will both be showcasing traditionally inspired tastes as well as a raft of other activities to mark May 30th, Dia de Canarias.

The Monumento’s menu includes an appetizer of Gofio with Canarian banana, goats cheese, palm honey and toasted almond grains. A choice of starters between Tartar of guacamole with Canarian tomatoes, onion and coriander and a selection of garden vegetables or the Canarian classic of Ropa Vieja, Old Clothes in English, which fortunately tastes a lot better than it sounds as in this instance it´s made with local pork and vegetables rather than your left over laundry. Followed by another reinterpretation of an uber-traditional Canarian ingredient in the form of a Gofio mousse with banana compote.

Whilst down the road at MIAC’s recently revamped Que Muac restaurant the chefs have devised a similarly tempting selection of dishes utilizing local ingredients, which include an appetizer of Miniature spare ribs with pineapple and another Gofio based dessert, this time served with mango sorbet and Bienmesabe, another very traditional Canarian postre flavor.

Both menus are being served from 12.00 to 16.00 on Saturday and there´ll also be live folklore music at the Monumento. MIAC´s restaurant then opens again from 19.00 to 23.00 with a DJ set rapping up the event from 23.00 to 00.30.

Both events are likely to be popular so if you fancy attending reserve a table by calling MIAC on (0034) 928 812321 or the Monumento on (0034) 928 520136. The MIAC set menu costs €15 per head.
