SHADOW PLAY UpCycled Artworks at El Grifo

El Grifo, Lanzarote’s oldest bodega, is currently playing host to a new exhibition of upcycled and reclaimed artworks created by German born island resident Dora Prehn.

Hamburg born Dora first came to prominence on the local art scene in 2010, when she walked off with the top prize at the Museum of International and Contemporary Art’s exhibition Arte Como Basura, with her work David’s Shadow, an ingenious, shade casting sculpture made entirely from recycled materials that pays humorous homage to Michelangelo’s David.

Her new exhibition showcases this and other similar works that have been created using found and reclaimed materials such as old toys, LP’s and driftwood, all of which also cast distinct and surprising shadows, along with other equally playful items such as infinity mirrors.

The exhibition is open from 10.30 to 19.00 daily and runs until September 30th. Entry is free of charge.
