ITALIAN JOB Georgio Orefice Exhibition Opens in Yaiza

The eminent Italian artist Georgio Orefice showcases some of his most recent creations in a new exhibition being staged in Yaiza which runs until July 25th.

Born in Syracuse, but now happily domiciled in Lanzarote, his long and distinguished career spans several of the best known schools of the modern art world, encompassing pop art and hyperrealism through to fractalism, computer graphics and sculpture. As well as taking in theatre design and religious iconography, such as his fourteen part work Way Of The Cross, which he created from local lava and which is now housed permanently at the village church in Yaiza, Neustro Senora de los Remedios.

Since moving to Lanzarote in 2004 he has also focused on the creation of artworks formed from pieces of rough lava which are then painted and fired in a kiln.

His new exhibition, entitled Art Emotional, is being staged at the Casa de Cultura in Yaiza and comprises an emotionally charged return to the public stage as his creative ouput has been restricted in recent years. The exhibition features 43 seperate abstract works, which have all been inspired by the raw and natural beauty of Lanzarote and echo the colours and textures employed by Cesar Manrique.

Admission is free of charge and the Casa de Cultura is open Monday to Friday from 08.30 to 14.30 and 17.00 to 19.30 hours.
