BIGGER PICTURE World Press Photo Exhibition in Arrecife

The World Press Photo Exhibition visits Lanzarote again from tomorrow at the Sala Municipal exhibition space in El Charco, Arrecife.

The World Press Photo Foundation was first formed back in 1955 in order to showcase the work of the world's leading visual journalists. And today their touring exhibition of the year's most striking press images tours the globe, taking in 100 cities in 45 countries and reaching over 4 million people.

This year's event in Lanzarote opens tomorrow night and features this year's overall winning image, entitled Hope For A New Life, which was taken by Warren Richardson and which focuses on a Syrian refugee baby being passed through razor wire on the Serbian-Hungarian border.

Other highly topical shots include John J. Kim's March Against Violence, featuring a stare down between a Chicago police officer and an African American youth and Francesco Zizola's image In The Same Boat, which highlights the plight of North African emigrants attempting to cross the Med to reach Europe.

The World Press Photo Exhibition runs until August 18th and admission is free of charge. The Sala Municipal is open Monday to Friday from 10.00 to 13.00 and 18.00 to 21.00, and on Saturdays from 10. to 13.00.
