Jet2 Unveil New Glasgow Service

The low cost airline announced yesterday that it will be adding a new route to Lanzarote to its flight rosta in 2012, with a regular service operating between Glasgow and the island. This brings the total number of connections offered by up to five, with Lanzarote flights already running from Manchester, Newcastle, Leeds Bradford and East Midlands.

The director of the company, Steve Heapy, was happy to confirm this new route at a press conference held on Thursday last week in the Aeronautic Museum at Lanzarote airport. When he also took the opportunity to announce that the budget airline will be increasing the number of seats available for flights to Lanzarote from 80,000 this year to 100,000 in 2012.

This expansion of available flights is in response to a 55% increase in the number of passengers the company is bringing to the island this summer. Of the seats already purchased for flights this summer, 21% have been bought through its tour operator arm, as part of a package of flight and accommodation. In 2012, hopes to increase the amount of business generated by this part of the company to up to 40%.

The news was received very positively by the Councillor for Tourism and the Tourist Centres, Astrid Perez, who commented on the excellent level of collaboration between the British airline and tourist authorities on the island over the last five years that have been flying to Lanzarote.
