Lanzarote Weather :: Heatwave Expected As Calima Blows In

The weather in Lanzarote is about to get a whole lot hotter tomorrow as a heat wave is expected to descend across the Canaries on Wednesday 7th September. The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has issued a yellow alert warning today that temperatures could reach as high as 35º C, with a calima already in evidence across Lanzarote.

All of the islands except Tenerife are expected to see temperatures of 35º C or 95º F during Wednesday, with little variation between coastal and inland temperatures being expected. Peak temperatures are forecast for between 11.00 and 18.00 during the day tomorrow.

Today, the weather on Lanzarote is expected to build up to hotter levels as the day progresses, although it may be partially cloudy throughout the day, especially in the north of the island.

At present, the prevailing wind direction appears to be bringing a calima in from the coast of North Africa, which will account for the heat wave anticipated for tomorrow. The wind should die away during today, from approximately midday onwards.
