Puerto Calero Wins Bid For Arrecife Marina

The concession to develop a new sports marina at Puerto Naos in Arrecife has been awarded to Puerto Calero by the Port Authority of Las Palmas. Work will now get underway so that the new facilities are open to the public within 15 months.

Puerto Calero won the bid to construct and develop the waterside area of Puerto Naos with a proposed budget of 36 million Euros to be spent on the project. The company will then have a thirty year license for the exploitation of the development. It was the only private construction company to submit the necessary paperwork in time and in the appropriate form, when the competition was re-opened for tender earlier this year.

The project will see the development of nearly 100,000 square metres of land and water, with a new harbour providing up to 430 moorings. The main area that is to be developed lies behind the existing Institute of Sea Fishing.

In addition, a new dry dock for repairs to recreational boats will be built, as well as office space for the administration of the harbour. The existing maritime walkway will be extended through the area to make it accessible to visitors who have arrived in the cruise ship harbour and various zones for commercial ventures and swimming pools are also being contemplated.
